National Grid Wireless Launches Distributed Antenna System in Andover, Massachusetts
BOXBOROUGH, MA— December 19, 2006 — National Grid Wireless today announced it has launched a neutrally-hosted outdoor Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in Andover, Massachusetts permitting cellular/PCS carriers to improve coverage capacity and deliver E-911 access for added safety along the southern portions of routes 28 and 125.
This new DAS network was designed in conjunction with leading wireless carriers to complement their current macro networks in Andover, filling an important gap in cellular/PCS availability for customers along these roadways where previously they had poor or no reception at all. Launched with multiple carriers from Day One, the Andover DAS provided these tenants with a targeted solution, deployed quickly, with a unanimous decision by the local zoning board.
“This is just another example of our collaboration with customers and the communities they serve,” said Doug Wiest, CEO of National Grid Wireless US. “Our targeted DAS network is an ideal solution in neighborhoods, like Andover, to solve specific coverage problems in a cost-effective, unobtrusive way.”
Having the best wireless experience possible requires an infrastructure that can provide near ubiquitous coverage and capacity wherever wireless end users live, play, and work. The Andover launch adds yet another system to National Grid Wireless’ portfolio of over 100 DAS networks in the UK and US. As a neutrally-hosted site, all locally FCC licensed cellular/PCS carriers can leverage the Andover DAS infrastructure, reducing the proliferation of antennas in this community, while offering voice, high-speed data and E-911 services to residents and visitors alike.
