Network Operations Technician

Hudson Valley DataNet, a division of Lightower, is seeking a Network Operations Technician.This  position ensures proper operation, integration, provisioning, and maintenance of all network elements, including but not limited to, DataNet’s Internet and data services. Maintain assigned systems within operational parameters. Maintain and ensure data integrity of operational and administrative support databases. Perform surveillance of the network and network elements using various hardware and software. Initiate immediate corrective action upon receipt of network events, alarms, logs, and customer reports.

Responsibilities

• Configure and maintain 24x7 high speed Internet backbone routers and complex LAN switching, as well as SONET, WDM and Gigabit Ethernet backbone networks
• Configure and maintain 24x7 network security utilizing Intrusion Detection, Firewalls, Security Scanners and Packet Analysers

Job Knowledge

• Knowledge of TCP/IP, IP sub netting, OSPF, BGP, STP, and 802.1Q Trunking
• Knowledge of TDM technologies including multiplexing hierarchy, DACS, timing methodologies, gigabit Ethernet and optical technologies
• Familiarity with Ethernet packet analysers, OTDR’s, SONET test sets, and BERT test sets
• Familiarity w/ Solaris 8, 9 or 10 BIND 9.0, DNS, Windows 2000 &  XP, Office Products, Windows Server 2000 & 2003

Education

• BSEE/CS or equivalent experience
• CCNA certification or greater

Additional Information

• Valid driver’s license with good driving record
• Properly insured personal motor vehicle for use on company business, as required
• After hours availability for pager/cell phone contact and emergency callouts
• Shift work availability
